Caribsea Buffer Plus™ is used to buffer systems to a correct pH range of 8.1 to 8.3 and to maintain these values. In addition, Buffer Plus™ gradually releases calcium and strontium into your system in controlled doses! Regular application of Buffer Plus™ helps to stabilize alkalinity and calcium levels in a seawater system.
Use Buffer Plus™ to stabilize pH values and increase carbonate strength. The optimum pH level for saltwater tanks is between 8.1 and 8.3 and the carbonate strength should be in a range between 9.8 and 12.6 dKH.
To increase pH levels, dissolve one teaspoon of CaribSea Buffer Plus™ in one cup of water. This amount is sufficient for about 57 litres of water.
Note: Buffer Plus™ produces a short-term turbidity in the water by raising the calcium level. Apply turbid liquid to a part of the aquarium with high water movement. The turbidity will disappear within 30 minutes after Buffer Plus™ begins to release valuable calcium into the system. Measure pH and alkalinity after 24 hours. Repeat this procedure until optimal pH and alkalinity levels are achieved. Check these levels weekly with a proper water test. Quantities can be adjusted as needed.
Important: Close the container tightly after usage and prevent moisture from ingress.
Other factors that affect the pH value: Factors for the decrease of a pH level are; tightly closed aquarium covering, overgrown plants and too many animals. Both increase the concentration of carbon dioxide and seems to be acidic in the water. High pH levels (above 8.3) can be caused by overdosing calcium hydroxide (lime water) or by intensive lighting.
To increase the calcium level, use Caribsea ReefCal™.
For faster growth of pink and purple calcareous red algae use PurpleUp™. PurpleUp™ definitely works!
